Serre Chevalier is a popular ski resort located in the French Alps, specifically in the Hautes-Alpes region of south-eastern France. It is renowned for its excellent skiing and snowboarding opportunities, as well as its charming Alpine villages and stunning mountain scenery. Serre Chevalier is situated in the southern French Alps, near the town of Briançon. It is part of the larger Serre Chevalier Valley, which includes several smaller villages and hamlets. The nearest major airport to Serre Chevalier is Turin which is approximately 2 hours by car, Lyon which is just under 3 hours or Geneva which is just over 3 hours.

In addition to skiing and snowboarding, Serre Chevalier offers a variety of winter activities such as snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, ice climbing, and ice skating. Winter in Serre Chevalier offers a fantastic combination of world-class skiing, stunning natural beauty, and a welcoming alpine atmosphere, whether you’re an avid skier or simply looking for a winter getaway in the French Alps. It is part of the Grande Galaxie Ski Area which has 150 lifts and offers 531km of downhill skiing on 264 pistes. The correct lift pass will allow you to not only ski Serre Chevalier but also Les Deux Alpes and Puy Saint Vincent.

If you only want to ski Serre Chevalier then this is a fantastic resort for all abilities with 15 black pistes, 42 red pistes, 32 blues and 25 greens. In total they make up 250km of marked pistes and there really is “something for everyone”.

Serre Chevalier comprises several interconnected villages including Briançon, Chantemerle, Villeneuve, and Monêtier-les-Bains, which have very different vibes and attractions and all offering a variety of hotels, catered chalets and self catering apartments. You can find lodging to suit different budgets and preferences, whether you want to stay right on the slopes or in a charming alpine village.

Briançon is the highest town in France and is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site due to its fortifications that were built between the 18th and 20th century. The town in beautiful and full of character and charm. Due to its size, it offers a large selection of accommodation though the hotels here can be very expensive. There has been an investment of EUR 50 million in the laste fews to cut the queues.

Chantermerle offers is a “traditional” ski resort arranged around a village square and with a large variety of differing accommodation types. It has a calming feel to it and it well known as being the resort to stay in if you are a “real skiier”. It is also home to one of the most challenging black slope names after the triple Olympic champion Luc Alphand who has made this resort his home.

Villeneuve is in the middle of the Serre Chevalier ski area offering easy access to all the slopes. It is a relatively new village but has something to offer everyone. Monêtier-les-Bains is one of the highest of the villages in Serre Chevalier, sitting at 1500m. It has been a ski resort “forever” and is popular due to its thermal spa which is one of the largest in Europe. For this reason there is a lot of accommodation in this area.

Serre Chevalier is known for being family-friendly, with various ski schools and childcare facilities available. There are also activities for children, ensuring that the whole family can enjoy the winter experience.
