Discover La Toussuire
La Toussuire sits on a sunny plateau at a snow-sure 1750m altitude. Part of France’s fourth largest ski area Les Sybelles, it is the highest of six villages overlooking the Maurienne Valley in Savoie comprising St Colomban des Villards (1100m), Les Bottières (1300m), Le Corbier (1550m), St Jean d’Arves (1550m) and St Sorlin d’Arves (1600m).
The area enjoys some of the most stunning scenery in the French Alps and, like Alpe d’Huez to the south, plenty of sunshine. A purpose-built resort with not surprisingly excellent access to the ski slopes, you will find large apartment buildings in the centre as well as more traditional ski-in ski-out chalet style residences and plenty of bars and restaurants with terraces to make the most of the sunshine.
La Toussuire is a purpose built resort in the Vallée de la Maurienne and is one of the oldest ski areas in France. The resort is one of 6 linked ski villages that make up the area of Les Sybelles, which is the 4th largest ski area in France. The area is renowned for its’ stunning 360 degree scenery, quiet slopes and frequent heavy snowfall. La Toussuire is particularly popular with families because the slopes are not as busy as other French resorts and it is also great value for money. La Toussuire is also attractive to new free stylers as it has direct access to the 2 snow park areas, one of which is a beginners area.
The town has a range of mixed budget accommodation with a large majority being ski in/ski out. Most properties have been built to take advantage of the stupendous views. There is a friendly village centre with bars, restaurants and cafés which have large sun terraces to enjoy lunch or aprés ski, directly on the slopes.

Skiing and snowboarding is assured throughout the season as there are lifts as high as 2,620m. While the majority of the runs are intermediate, the off-piste opportunities are endless and it is usually possible to ski back to the village. Beginners are well looked after, there are day care centres for the very young and the ski schools have snow gardens. Snowboarders have up to 3 snow parks to choose from. Non-skiers can enjoy paragliding, snow shoe walking, snowmobiling, dog sledding or ice skating.
Cycling is big in the Maurienne region which has hosted the Tour de France in 2006, 2012 and 2015. There are over 60 road routes and 20 marked mountain biking trails so cyclists are well taken care of here. There are also numerous hiking routes as well as tennis courts, swimming pools and a skate park and pump track for the youngsters. For the thrill seekers there is tubing, paragliding, a big air bag and a zip line. If you are seeking a more relaxing visit there are quieter activities on offer such as spas, saunas, massages and yoga. The area is also surrounded by typical Savoyard villages, mountain chapels and churches so there is much to discover if you enjoy exploring areas of cultural heritage.
