Pralognan-la-Vanoise is a small resort at an altitude of 1410m in the Tarentaise valley in Savoie. Situated between Courchevel and La Plagne yet not linked to them, Pralognan and its surrounding hamlets are authentic Savoyard villages in the heart of the Vanoise National Park.

It is a family-friendly resort that offers excellent value for money with plenty of dual-season activities and impressive facilities such as the 6500m2 multi-leisure complex, Le Cristal. The skating rink was the 1992 Olympic curling venue, and the aquatic area has a swimming pool & spa, multi sports space, fitness area, bowling alley and a climbing wall.

For over 150 years Pralognan-la-Vanoise has been an ideal location to explore the Vanoise, France’s first national park which, together with the Gran Paradiso National Park on the Italian side of the border, make up the largest national park area in the Alps. The village sits in a steep-sided valley with breath-taking views of the surrounding mountains. From its origins as a farming community and stopover on the salt road between France and Italy, the late 19th Century brought tourists and convalescents who would both enjoy and benefit from its pure mountain air.

Nowadays the resort is impressively endowed with facilities which belie its relatively small size. Its skating rink was the venue for the 1992 Winter Olympics Curling and it boasts a large aquatic and multi-sports centre. The resort has a selection of mostly small hotels as well as chalets and apartments for rent and sale.

A gondola in the centre of the resort provides access to the ski area at Mont Bochor at 2023m. There are 26km of ski pistes and 12 lifts in total (1 gondola, 4 chairlifts and 7 button lifts) with a high point of 2355m at the top of the Ancolie lift. Two thirds of the ski runs are classed as intermediate, most of the others are easy and a few are difficult. The resort enjoys a good natural snow record which is embellished with 87 snow cannons covering 64% of the ski area. A ski park and slalom course provide added interest. Further afield, the Grand Ski Pass covers one full day of skiing at La Plagne or Courchevel. The resort provides cross country skiers with the fourth largest ski area in the Savoie with 26km of runs.

The Vanoise National Park was the first of France’s parks to be awarded the status and it’s not hard to understand why. It really is a playground in the summer. Mountain bikers can enjoy the 9 MTB tours around the surrounding valleys. The best way to appreciate the high mountain scenery is on foot or in the air with a paraglider. Other activities include Via Ferrata, horse riding, swimming at the pool and spa in the Cristal multi sports centre, zip lines, mini-golf, tennis and rock climbing.
