A brief history of Nendaz.
Nendaz is actually made up of 15 hamlets that stretch from Aproz in the valley floor right up to Haute-Nendaz, which sits at 1,365 metres above sea level and overlooks the Rhone Valley and the mountain ranges beyond. Haute-Nendaz sits in the centre of the popular 4 Vallées ski domain and as such provides easy access to its glitzy and chic neighbour, Verbier, but also to La Tzoumaz, Siviez, Thyon and Veysonnaz. All the resorts in the 4 Vallées are easily reached within a day from Nendaz, which acts as a central hub, offering over 400 kilometers of skiing.
Nendaz is popular with both buyers and renters because it is a more affordable alternative to staying or living in Verbier but provides quick and easy access to the Verbier ski scene via interlinked runs and ski lifts. The first ski lifts arrived in 1958 and the resort has grown enormously since then with the provision of chalets, apartment blocks, restaurants, shops and bars. The resort retains an authentic charm and is proud to retain its farming heritage in the form of apricot orchards, cheese making and cherry orchards further down the valley.
The summer months are beautiful in Nendaz and it is very popular with walkers who are particularly keen to explore the ancient bisse system that criss-cross around Nendaz. There are 8 bisses in Nendaz and they are particularly popular with walkers and families because they are relatively flat and provide some well needed shade, as well as spectacular views. Nendaz is also popular among bikers and with the increasing popularity of electric bikes, it is possible to cover vast areas now.
