Raising the roof on Chalet Pomone, Villars, Switzerland with owners Michael & Linda Fentum.
Hoteliers Michael and Linda Fentum.
Michael and Linda Fentum first discovered the Swiss mountain village of Villars 31 years ago when their daughter Sara attended the hotel school in Lausanne. They have kept property in Villars ever since. Once the owners of Furlong Hotels, a UK-based hotel group, the now retired couple have been buying and selling hotels since 1969 and are experts in identifying what makes both an area and a property popular. In 2006 Michael and Linda bought a plot of land in Villars and set about creating their perfect Swiss home which they named Chalet Pomone.
Chalet Pomone is situated in Villars, Switzerland and is currently for sale for CHF 4,500,000.
A luxurious Swiss Chalet in a peaceful location.
Here, Michael Fentum describes Chalet Pomone…
The name choice for the chalet was important to us and comes from Pomona, a mythical Roman goddess associated with family life and blossoming trees. It felt like the perfect name as it is a cherished family home in a delightful location.
Chalet Pomone was constructed on a site situated on the popular Route des Ecovets within a short drive of the pretty alpine village of Villars. An ecologically-friendly build, the construction of Chalet Pomone incorporated geothermal heating, thereby avoiding a gas or oil supply, and rain water is gathered in underground tanks for reuse where appropriate.
For us, the delight of the chalet is the design. All the rooms flow from one to another and it is easy and pleasurable to live in. The master bedroom has two dressing rooms and 2 ensuites with bath and shower rooms which give the utmost privacy to each of the occupants, if required. Guest bedrooms are on a lower level with an optional independent entrance.
On the ground floor there is a fully equipped kitchen carnotzet, traditionally dedicated to wine tasting and cheese-based gastronomy. On the first floor a modern and stylish kitchen with a feature AGA opens through to the dining room and the large terrace.
The wine cellar is based on an American design with air conditioning and humidity control and enhanced by the lighting. This is always a pleasure to walk into!
With uninterrupted views I am constantly fascinated by the changing light over this delightful panoramic landscape of soaring mountain peaks. This is something that has not changed over the last 3 decades.
During the summer, cow bells can be heard in the meadows near the chalet and there is much on offer on our doorstep with plenty of walks straight from the front door of the chalet. It is only a 15 minute level walk along the road through woodland to Les Ecovets where a charming mountain restaurant serves tasty and traditional mountain cuisine. Here there are also many signposts for numerous walks which truly open your eyes to this captivating part of Switzerland.
Chalet Pomone has easy access to the motorways and Geneva Airport can be reached in less than 1 ½ hours. Lake Geneva is within a 40 minute drive so one can enjoy the various pretty towns dotted along the shoreline like Montreux and Vevey.
It is also easy to drive into France, Italy or Germany. You really are at the centre of Europe.
For someone seeking a delightfully refined chalet providing privacy space and an Alpine location, then Chalet Pomone is the answer.
Why buy a chalet in Villars?
Villars has long been an attractive resort in which to own property and has been enjoying a boom growth period in recent years. It enjoys close proximity to Geneva Airport and lies on a sunny plateau providing access to multiple dual season activities. Since building Chalet Pomone in 2006 Michael and Linda have seen many changes to this lovely and exclusive mountain resort, however they feel that Villars has retained its village charm whilst offering many amenities including good shopping, medical services and cultural activities.
The resort is home to 4 international schools, prep schools Pre Fleuri and La Garenne – opened within a year of each other in 1948 and 1947 respectively – and world famous Aiglon College and Beau Soleil, the oldest of the four founded in 1910. This remarkable academic concentration means the village is a true year-round resort and much has been invested into the village infrastructure attracting sports lovers from all over the world both in the summer and the winter.
