Val Thorens Skiing – Our Top 6 Reasons to Ski here…

Val Thorens skiing – an experience waiting for you to discover.

VAL THORENS is a popular French ski resort located in the Tarentaise Valley of the Savoie region. It is one of the highest ski resorts in Europe, making it a favorite destination for winter sports enthusiasts. Val Thorens offers an attractive combination of excellent skiing conditions, diverse terrain, modern amenities, and a lively atmosphere. Whether you’re an experienced skier or a novice looking to learn, Val Thorens has something to offer every visitor seeking a memorable mountain experience.

1. A High Altitude and Snow Sure Destination.

Val Thorens is the highest ski resort in Europe, situated at an altitude of 2,300 meters (7,546 feet) above sea level. This high elevation combined with its excellent snow making facilities, ensures good snow conditions throughout the ski season lasting from November through to May which makes it one of the most snow sure resorts in Europe.

2. An Extensive Ski Area and Varied Terrain.

Val Thorens skiing is extensive. The resort is part of the vast Three Valleys ski area, one of the largest interconnected ski domains in the world. Skiers and snowboarders have access to over 600 kilometers (370 miles) of slopes, catering to all skill levels. Whether you’re a beginner or an advanced skier, there are plenty of runs and off-piste opportunities to explore. The ski area offers diverse terrain, including groomed slopes, challenging black runs, wide open powder fields, and well-maintained terrain parks. This variety appeals to skiers and snowboarders of all abilities and draws them back like bees to a honey pot year after year.

  • The highest lift in the Three Valleys is 3,200m.
  • North, East, South and West facing slopes.
  • Val Thorens itself offers 140km of marked pistes.
  • The Three Valleys offers 497 of marked pistes with 180 lifts.
  • There are also 2 glaciers included within the ski piste count.
  • Easy access to the Three Valleys resorts of Courchevel, La Tania, Les Menuires, Méribel and St. Martin-de-Belleville.

3. A Modern Lift Infrastructure.

Val Thorens boasts a modern, wind tolerant and efficient lift system, which is one of the best in the Three Valleys. The resort is constantly improving the lifts with the sole aim of reducing waiting times and allowing you to maximize your time on the slopes. This infrastructure is continually being updated to improve the overall skiing experience including the mass exodus of the resort in the mornings and the reverse influx in the afternoons which is well managed with limited queuing. Lift lines away from the main resort are minimal even in the peak season.

4. Ski In/Ski Out Accommodation and Family Friendly Vibe.

Because the resort is totally purpose built, it does have a somewhat “brutal” architectural style, however this means that much of the accommodation options are located in a ski in/ski out position and there is a handy network of ski pistes that criss-cross the resort. This makes for convenient access to the slopes and not so much carrying around your equipment, which is especially handy for families with young children. Val Thorens is great for  families, with a range of suitable accommodation, ski schools, and activities for children. The resort’s pedestrian-friendly layout also makes it easy for families to get around.

There has recently been an upturn in refurbishing some of the older apartments within the resort to reap the benefits of the rental market. It is this strong market that is a major factor when one is considering investing in a ski property in Val Thorens.

5. The Nightlife.

Val Thorens caters not just to families but also to young (and old!) party animals with a vibrant après-ski and nightlife scene. There are numerous bars, restaurants, and night clubs where you can unwind, socialize and enjoy a traditional beer after a day on the mountain. It’s a great place to relax, enjoy good food, and meet like-minded ski and snowboard legends!. Visitors with shallow or deep pockets are well catered to with a variety of cuisines in the hotels and restaurants.
