La Tzoumaz, which is part of the 4 Vallées Ski Area, is situated in the canton of Valais and is an accessible 2 hour drive from Geneva. For this reason and its proximity to prestigious Verbier, it's definitely a ski resort where you should consider either buying in or holidaying in, if you want access to fabulous skiing at a sliver of the Verbier prices.
La Tzoumaz, is the neighbouring resort to Verbier and has 41 km of its own challenging slopes at an altitude of 2,200m. It is part of the Savoleyres ski area included within the 4 Vallées, which totals over 410 km of world class skiing and snowboarding, with additional off-piste skiing on top of that. The slopes cater to all abilities but La Tzoumaz is expecially popular with families and also benefits from having both North and South facing slopes, so you can enjoy both amazing snow with a longer ski season, as well as wonderful sunshine. The views are also amazing from the resort, looking down the Valais Valley towards Sierre and the mountains beyond.
There are a mixture of ski slopes in La Tzoumaz that attract families who will also benefit from this quieter resort in the 4 Vallées, but the real jewel in the crown now for La Tzoumaz is the amazing new lift that connects La Tzoumaz to Verbier, which is open from the 2025/2026 ski season. La Télémixte is a beast of a ski lift, offering a combination of 6 seater chairlifts and 10 seater cable cars. The new lift has been designed to deliver skiers with their skies still strapped to their feet, between Verbier–Les Ruinettes and Savoleyres–La Tzoumaz and replaces the clunky and out of date bus system that connected La Tzoumaz to the rest of the 4 Vallées up until this season. This lift investment is a real bonus for La Tzoumaz, hauling it into modern times with a bang and in the longer term benefitting the village by attracting more buyers and tourists with this improved lift connection! Added to this La Tzoumaz boasts one of the longest toboggan (711m) runs in the French speaking part of Switzerland from Savoleyres-La Tzoumaz. Endless fun for both the young and old and a perfect way to relax after a day on your feet. If you like fun zones, then take the lift up to Savoleyres and enjoy the Funslope which is situated on the Taillay slopes - a 400m course with 25 elements including a 10 metre long snail and a 15 metre long curved wall - lots of fun to be had here for all age groups - if you dare! Whilst in the area you can also visit the slalom slopes of the Raiffeisen Ski Stadiums where you can time your runs. From the village there are also 4 snow shoe trails and numerous cross country skiing trails, or for the thrill seekers amongst you enjoy the views from the skies above with paragliding. And finally, there is even a free ice rink in the centre of the village for those members of your party with extra energy to spare!
La Tzoumaz’s allure extends well beyond its snowy slopes. This charming little village really comes alive in the summer, offering a whole array of mountain outdoor pursuits that are great for the whole family, especially the marked biking and hiking trails. A particular draw is the Croix du Coeur which offers spectacular 360 degree views of the Grand Combin, Mont Blanc, the Muveran and finally the Bernese Oberland. Both bikers and walkers flock here for the views but the pretty forest and mountain walks below here descending into La Tzoumaz are also rather magical. There is a car park for walkers at the far end of the village on the route/track that takes you up to the Croix du Coeur if you want to climb to the top. This road is a quick entrance to Verbier in the summer if you don't mind some hair raising bends and steep descents! If you don't mind this route then it's not far to Verbier to play on the pristine golf courses in this ever popular resort - who know who you will be rubbing shoulders with! Paragliding is also common here, as well as pony trekking, climbing, a swimming pool, padel courts and a skate park. La Tzoumaz is also well placed for wellness centres including the spa in Nendaz and the thermal baths of Lavey and Ovronnaz which are well worth a visit. There is something here for everyone, making La Tzoumaz an ideal all round destination if you are looking to buy a property here without the Verbier price tag.
Switzerland is increasingly seen as a "safe haven" and the market for ski properties here has seen a notable rise in recent years, which has far outstripped supply. Pretty La Tzoumaz has a range of options, from apartments to ski in/ski out chalets that will come on the market infrequently, but are a fraction of neighbouring Verbier's prices. Because of the proximity to Verbier it makes La Tzoumaz an interesting option for those seeking to buy a property in the Swiss Alps, especially if you want quieter slopes on your doorstep with the option of joining in with the cosmopolitan and wealthy Verbier crowd! You will enjoy full access to the Verbier ski area, especially with the opening of the Télémixte lift but will hopefully be able to own either a ski in/ski out chalet or apartment with a larger floor area than neighbouring Verbier and definitely at a much lower price tag - a serious option to consider when thinking of investing in a property in the 4 Vallées.
