Les Arcs is situated in the Tarentaise Valley, within the Savoie region of France. The resort is easily accessible from major cities and airports, making it a popular destination for both domestic and international visitors.

The resort is divided into several villages or “arcs,” each offering a distinct atmosphere and range of accommodations. The five main villages are Arc 1600, Arc 1800, Arc 1950, and Arc 2000. The ski terrain covers a wide variety of slopes suitable for all skill levels, from beginners to advanced skiers and snowboarders.

Les Arcs is connected to La Plagne through the Vanoise Express cable car, forming the Paradiski area. Paradiski is one of the largest ski areas in the world, offering over 400 kilometers (about 250 miles) of interconnected ski slopes. This interconnected system provides a vast and diverse range of skiing and snowboarding experiences.

Les Arcs also offers a range of other winter activities. These include snowshoeing, cross-country skiing, ice skating, and more. The villages have après-ski options like restaurants, bars, and shops.

The architecture of Les Arcs is known for its unique design. The resort was developed in the 1960s and 1970s and features modernist architecture that incorporates the use of concrete and angular structures. The different arcs or villages have different styles, but the overall design has become iconic and distinctive.

Les Arcs is not just a winter destination. During the summer months, the area transforms into a hub for outdoor activities like hiking, mountain biking, paragliding, and rock climbing. The stunning alpine landscapes and fresh mountain air make it an attractive place for outdoor enthusiasts year-round.

Les Arcs offers a range of accommodations, from self-catered apartments to luxurious hotels. The newer villages, such as Arc 1950, have a more upscale and pedestrian-friendly feel.

  • 225km of ski pistes

  • 400km of interlinked skiing Paradiski

  • 2 glaciers over 3000m

  • 70% of ski area over 2000m altitude

If you’re a skiing enthusiast, Les Arcs is an incredible destination to explore with its extensive ski area and diverse range of runs. The breakdown of the marked runs provides a clear picture of the variety of options available for skiers of different skill levels:

  • 104 kilometers of blue runs
  • 70 kilometers of red runs
  • 26 kilometers of black runs
  • 10 kilometers of green runs

This offers a well-balanced selection for beginners, intermediate skiers, and experts, ensuring that everyone can find suitable slopes to enjoy.

Beyond the marked runs, the resort also offers several alternative snow-related activities, such as slalom courses, snow zones, and a high-altitude toboggan run, providing a diverse range of experiences beyond traditional skiing.

Les Arcs’ unique feature is the ten “natur” ski runs, which are challenging descents meant exclusively for expert skiers. These unpisted but patrolled and secured runs are designed to provide a thrilling and demanding experience for those seeking the ultimate skiing challenge.

The resort’s location on the northern slopes of the Vanoise massif contributes to its exceptional snow cover, with a vertical drop of over 2,000 meters from the highest point at an altitude of 3,227 meters. To ensure consistent snow cover, there’s also a network of snow-making machines that can augment natural snow during the early and late seasons, helping to keep a significant portion of the pistes open.

The Vanoise Express, the world’s largest cable car, offers a unique transportation experience, connecting Les Arcs/Peisey-Vallandry to La Plagne in just four minutes. Its single-span design without intermediate pylons and the glass floor in the interior space make it an exceptional ride, offering stunning views and a sense of adventure.

Additionally, the amenities in Arc 2000, including the small reversible cable car (the Cabriolet), chairlifts, gondolas, and drag lifts, contribute to the resort’s accessibility and the convenience of moving between different parts of the ski area.

Les Arcs is a paradise for skiers, offering a wide variety of slopes, alternative activities, and modern amenities to create an unforgettable winter sports experience.

Les Arcs/Peisey-Vallandry bike park is a renowned destination for mountain bikers, offering a diverse range of trails suitable for riders of all skill levels. With 149 kilometers of marked trails, ranging from easy greens to technical blacks, there’s something for everyone to enjoy.

For beginners and experienced riders alike, the bike park provides an exhilarating experience as you descend through rocky paths and forested trails against the backdrop of stunning mountains.

One of the highlights for experienced mountain bike enthusiasts is the famous La Cachette trail. This black diamond trail is machine-groomed and features a series of jumps, banked turns, and steep drops, providing an exciting and challenging ride.

If you’re interested in a different kind of outdoor activity, Les Arcs also offers a golf course that boasts an exceptional setting. Built in 1974, the golf course is situated on the mountainside at an altitude of 1,800 meters, offering breathtaking views over the Haute Tarentaise valley. You have the option to choose between an 18-hole and a 9-hole course, both of which provide a unique golfing experience in a stunning environment.

During the summer months, Les Arcs provides a variety of enjoyable activities for families and friends to share. One such activity is mountain karting, which offers all-terrain vehicles designed for tackling mountain slopes. There are two trails to choose from: a 1,050-meter trail and a 1,300-meter trail, both featuring a vertical drop of 120 meters. Access to mountain karting is provided via the Villards gondola. This exciting activity is open to children aged 10 and above, with a minimum height requirement of 140cm.

Whether you’re seeking thrilling mountain biking trails, picturesque golfing experiences, or fun-filled summer activities, Les Arcs offers a diverse range of options to make the most of your visit.
