Courchevel is the collective name for a number of resorts spreading up the Saint Bon valley. Starting from the original village of Saint Bon at 1100m, it continues up the mountain to Courchevel Le Praz (1300m), Courchevel Village (1550m), Courchevel Moriond (1650m) and finishes at Courchevel at 1850m. This is a unique and multi-faceted resort situated at the heart of the largest ski area in the world, The 3 Valleys.
Courchevel is a chic and perfectly groomed resort which comes at a price. It is also extremely popular which makes it very busy though the enormous lift system takes a lot of the strain and queues are minimal. It must be noted that prices go from high to low according to the altitude. Each of the 5 villages making up Courchevel offer a different feel. Courchevel 1100/Saint Bon is the original village and is very quiet and elegant. Courchevel Le Praz is also quiet with quaint chocolate box style housing. Courchevel Village is popular with families as is Courchevel Moriond. Courchevel 1850 is pure indulgence and oozes exclusivity. There is an abundance of dual season activities including skiing, tobogganing, ice skating, hiking, mountain biking, golf, fishing and Via Ferrata.
The 3 Valleys is the largest interconnected ski area in the world with 600km of ski slopes. Its 183 ski lifts are claimed to move 260,000 skiers every hour. There are also 120km of cross-country skiing on offer. Courchevel sits at the eastern end and offers an array of beginners and intermediate slopes as well as challenging mogul fields and black runs. Courchevel 1850 has the only rail park in the Three Valleys. There are an additional 2 Fun Zones above Moriond which are more suitable for the beginner and intermediate skier. For weary bodies the new aquatic centre Aquamotion houses spas and 11 pools including a lagoon, baby pool, surfwave, river rapids, waterslide and jacuzzi. There is also an impressive infrastructure of buses linking all 5 resorts.
Courchevel offers a huge range of summer activities and has an extensive summer lift system for easy access to reach the summits. There are plenty of mountain restaurants where you can take a break from your hike. It is an important summer destination for anglers with 7 designated fishing sites including 6 mountain lakes and a river. Mountain biking is also popular here with descents to suit all abilities. Hot air ballooning is another big attraction and is the perfect way to enjoy the spectacular summer scenery within this valley. Canyoning, canoeing and white-water rafting offer the thrill seeker an adrenaline packed experience.
