Val d’Isère is one of the best-known ski resorts in the world. The king of French snow-sure skiing, stretching vertically from 1,850m to a dazzling 3,450m, the town’s facilities are the envy of most alpine resorts. Val d’Isère is a resort that really knows its worth and how to maintain its brand. This is an important consideration for property buyers.
Val d’Isère has recently updated the following:
Val d’Isère is a vibrant resort whose stone-clad chalets and buildings sprawl along the La Daille Valley. The town is cosmopolitan and offers a huge ski area as it connects with the purpose-built resort of Tignes.
Après ski here is second to none and starts on the slopes from 2pm with live entertainment at La Folie Douce, one of the most famous après ski spots in Europe. There are plenty of bars, cafes and restaurants in the town to continue the party.
There is lots to do in Val d’Isère so you have plenty of options for bad-weather days, including a cinema and the huge all season Aquasportif centre, which houses a multitude of activities.
Val d’Isère is a resort that truly “has it all” with something for everyone, both on and off the piste.
With over 300km of piste skiing and numerous bowls and off-piste routes, Val d’Isère is popular with all ranges of skiers. There are 24 black pistes, 44 intermediate pistes, 65 blue pistes and 21 beginner runs all served by 87 ski lifts. There is also 44 km of cross-country skiing.
Snowboarders are well served with 2 large terrain parks in the area. One in Tignes which is better suited to the beginner and one at Val d’Isère where rails and jumps are longer and higher.
Many ski lifts have recently been updated with more planned to help reduce lift queues, in keeping with Val’s sleek and sophisticated reputation.
Because of its altitude Val d’Isère is about as snow-sure as it gets in the French Alps and the resort enjoys a long ski season with the help of over 200 snow cannons.
Val d’Isère has something for all ages and all abilities in the summer months too.
The jewel in its crown is the Aquasportif centre which offers a whole range of activities such as badminton, basketball, a climbing wall, squash, football and table tennis as well as a large swimming area with water cannons, massage jets, fun pool and a whirling river current, all with panoramic views of the mountains. There is also a wellness centre with a jacuzzi, spas and saunas. This is also open in the winter months.
Road cycling is popular as some of the most arduous sections of the Tour de France are here, drawing road bike enthusiasts to take up the challenge of part of the course.
Other summer activities in Val d’Isère include hiking, canoeing, canyoning, archery, parapenting, horse riding and rock climbing, so there is a true mixture of activities to suit either the adrenaline junkie or those who simply want to enjoy some quiet downtime in this charming and sophisticated dual season resort
