Crans-Montana

A year-round town with a permanent population of 10,000 people, Crans-Montana is an upmarket resort situated on a south-facing plateau with spectacular views of Switzerland’s highest peaks. Home to many celebrities and sports stars it is an attractive second home destination that marries sports, relaxation and quality of life, with prices to match its cachet.

In the heart of the Alps on a high plateau surrounded by lakes and green spaces, Crans-Montana is one of the sunniest resorts in Switzerland. It is renowned for its exceptional air quality, its 400 sports and cultural events and its luxury boutiques, casino, trendy restaurants and lively nightlife. Cultural activities include regular concerts. The Fondation Opale promotes fine arts and organises regular exhibitions. The equestrian centre hosts the annual Longines International show jumping event. The resort is increasingly welcoming a younger demographic audience with Le Regent International School, Le Roche International Hotel School and an international summer camp. A hip new après-ski venue, the Cry d’Er club and restaurant at 2200 metres, a similar concept to the French Folie Douce, has made a big impact on the social scene.

Winter

140 kms of ski slopes stretch from the plateau up to the Plaine Morte glacier at 3000 metres. The broad and sunny pistes open out from the edge of the forest and are perfect for beginners and intermediates. There are 82km of cross country skiing trails. Snowshoe walkers can take advantage of trails on the town’s golf courses and there is ice skating both on natural ice as well as the town’s skating rink.

Summer

280 km of signed hiking trails abound in the forests and the high mountain. The sports centre houses tennis and squash and there is volleyball by (and water sports on) the swimming lakes next to the village. For mountain bikers there are 117km of marked trails, two downhill runs and the bike park. The town is a mecca for golfers and hosts the annual Omega European Masters, Europe’s second largest tournament. The 18-hole course was designed by Severiano Ballesteros and the 9-hole course by Jack Nicklaus. A number of famous golfers have made their homes in the resort.
